REVIEW: Not Your Mothers Dry Shampoo

Not your mothers Clean Freak

Dry Shampoo is the product I wish had existed when I was 5 and hated taking baths and showers…hell it still works for me now because I can’t wash my hair every single day, but finding a good shampoo is basically like trying to cross the ocean on a tug boat…it’s a challenge. Now for the review…

NOT YOUR MOTHERS DRY SHAMPOO

Not Your Mothers Dry Shampoo

Now here we have the Not Your Mothers Dry Shampoo…I think this just came out because I haven’t seen it before and there I was in CVS thinking hmmm should I try it or just go for one of the luxe brands?

Well obviously I went for it and here is my review.

Not Your Mothers Dry Shampoo

Not good hair

Before (Oily ewww and those roots forgive them I’m on break and not getting my hair did)

So here I am with my oily second day hair, which I would normally take a shower for, but I had swimming in 6 hours so meh I’ll go for the dry shampoo.

Dry Shampoo

Ahhh look grey hair…no bueno, but if you have common sense you know that doesn’t last since you let it sit for a few moments and then you shag it or brush it…I shag though cause that’s just my style. DRY Shampoo

My impression from the girl in The Ring…I got evil soul sucking down right?

Before Dry Shampoo

So here we are post shag nice and dry. after dry shampoo

Not as oily as before, but there is still a bit of a sheen that’s more of the bad bathroom lighting though than anything.

Now after that process all I can say is I can’t recommend this product at all.

Not because it wont do the work it will, but your hair will feel like someone just sprayed a whole can of Aqua Net from the 80’s into your hair. It’s crunchy and not a good taco crunchy, but gross you don’t want anyone touching your hair crunchy.

The only time I can recommend this is when you either have no other choice or you are about to go swimming, because I actually like it to stop the chlorine absorption from the pool. Because if you don’t want hair totally destroyed there are things a swimmer can do to stop it a bit, but that’s another blog post.

So there you go not my typical review, but none the less I had to let you know the truth and beauty companies come on you can do better than this.

Now if you used this and had different results let me know in the comments I’d love to know, but for me this is a no second buy product.

Kate In LA: 3 Tips To Enjoy Venice Beach

This is the beginning of a little vlog/journal for me and yes it’s mainly for me. I want to travel more and I want to actually take some video. I always get jealous when I see travel videos and when I was a kid I wanted nothing more than to be on the Travel Channel (obviously that didn’t work out), but thanks to technology and a full time job I’m actually in a spot I can do it on my own so I am.

The video itself is a little shaky and needs some work, but I think with time and practice I could get not bad at it…I hope.

If you have any questions about the video or Venice Beach or anything really just leave a comment below and I’ll check it out.

Review! FORMULA X FOR SEPHORA ASAP 3D Nail Appliqués

This one has been a long time coming. I kept meaning to write it out, but alas I am the queen of procrastination. In the mean time in my procrastination I did manage to get a few more products that I’ll hopefully be reviewing while I’m on break.

Now to the review…xformulanails

I love nail polishes. I’m a junky, but because my nails seem to not like the harsh chemicals I can’t paint them as much as I used too and there’s where nail appliques came in.

I love the idea of them and I’ve had great results from other brands and you’ll be happy to know this brand was also great.

1. Application: 4 stars

They give you all the tools you need and if you have a steady hand it should work out better for you than it did me. As you can see on the photo below I had some issues with bubbling, but again I’m not the best applier I just love nail polishes.

2. Quantity: 5 stars

It seems weird to leave this in the review, but for us short nailed girls it makes sense. In this case Formual X gives you about 3 different sets to work with and I’m guessing you’ll typically need two for a full application, but not for this short nailed girl. I was able to use one set for both hands, which makes this a great deal for the money.

3. Staying Power: 4 stars (docked one because I’m not sure how long they really last)

For me these lasted about 3 days before I lost it and took them off. I’m also sadly rough with my nails which is why I keep them short. Between swimming, hiking and weight lifting long nails fail and I can’t stand keeping nail polish on for longer, but for a polish queen these could probably last 7 days just make sure to have clean hands and wash off the excess oil with acetone before applying.

3. Price: 5 stars

$15 bucks. I can’t say much about the price. I hate the fact that most of the time that beauty products have a 300% markup, but in this case I got 3 applications to use and more than 1 days of use so to me it’s worth the money.

xnails-1

And we end with a shot of the ugly nails haha, but hey at least I got them on and they looked great from far away.

Did you try these ones out? If so what was your opinion on them? Also, if you have any application tricks let me know because I obviously need help.

Hopefully my next post isn’t far off. I’m hoping to review the OCC mini’s next…so badger me hopefully I’ll get to it.

Review: Em Cosmetics Tokyo Plums

So I caved. I knew I shouldn’t have, but I did the shadow junkie in me just couldn’t stop.

I bought one of the Em Eyeshadow Pallets and just had to review it.

IMG_0354

The packaging: 5 stars

I know their are some complaints about her Life Palette because most of us hate mixing lipsticks with shadows in the same compact and I’m no different, but I will say for just shadows this palette is great.

It’s slim and clean and magnetic. It’s very sturdy and I wouldn’t hesitate taking it on the road with me at all. Unlike other magnetic palettes I’ve dealt with this one feels of a higher quality and doesn’t feel like it would fall apart after a few weeks.

The price: 1 Star

I get why it’s priced so high no doubt Michelle did really well with Lancome, but as someone who understands profit margin from working with a cheap cosmetics brand I have to say the pricing is unimpressive. Originally the palette is $38, but I paid $25 because it was on sale (surprise they keep having sales. Wonder why?)

Basically at the original price she is asking about $6.33 per color. Sure there is one color with a lot of product, but I’d rather it had been pink and not purple so I could use it as a blush, which now I can’t because purple just wouldn’t work.

$6.33 is a lot per color at most I would say maybe charge $2.50 – $3.00 per color. It would make more sense for the YouTube audience it’s being marketed too as well it would be equal to the color payoff….

The product: 2 stars

Why? It’s lucky it’s getting 2 stars and I’m giving it that because I just worked with a NYX palette of Purples that had worse payoff. I didn’t like the payoff. You can see it in the above photo. The pinks are way too light for my skin tone and perhaps anyones…though I do appreciate the mix of matte and shimmer. The purples were very underwhelming I’d rather use my old BH palette with purples even though the chemicals in that will probably kill me the colors at least are much richer than in the Em Palette.

As for wearability I was so mad. I wore it without a primer and with a primer the fall out was horrible and by the end of the day if it wasn’t all the way off it looked quite muddy. This is why after 2 days I went back to my Too Faced Natural Eye Palette, which has stay ability and color payoff.

You’ll notice I’m fairly pale so the lighter color doesn’t show up that well, but the purples I would expect to be quiet vibrant on my skin tone and they weren’t.

Em Cosmetics

Overall: 2.5 Stars

If you like Michelle and want to try it buy it, but otherwise save your money. I would say and go buy a product that’s try and true. Try out Lorac, Too Faced, MAC, Nars…I mean if your willing to drop money. If not you can probably pick up some of Loreals Infallible shadows and have better luck with color payoff.

Either way I’m hoping they do work on a better formulation that can justify the crazy price point of this makeup that’s really not worth as much as they are selling it for at the moment and I do wish them the best and I want better for the people buying it.

In the mean time I hope you found this review useful if you have any questions just let me know in the comments below and if you’ve tried Em Cosmetics let me know what you thought below after all all opinions are usually not the same.
